Who Are the NMBI?

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland is the independent professional regulator for nurses and midwives practising in Ireland. Its role includes setting the standards of education, training, conduct and performance that nurses must meet, maintaining the official register of everyone permitted to practise, and investigating concerns raised about a nurse’s fitness to practise.

NMBI’s standards are set out in its Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, which sets the principles nurses are expected to work to, covering respect for the dignity of the patient, professional responsibility and accountability, and maintaining clinical competence throughout their career.

Nurses in Ireland must also maintain their registration through ongoing professional requirements set by NMBI. This means registration isn’t a one-off qualification, it has to be actively maintained throughout a nurse’s career.

Nurses cannot legally work in Ireland, under the title of nurse, without being registered with NMBI.

KSL Clinic and the NMBI

Nursing staff supporting patient care at KSL Clinic’s Dublin clinic are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. This covers nurses involved in pre-operative assessment, supporting surgical procedures, and post-operative aftercare at our Dublin clinic.

What We’re Regulated For

NMBI regulation covers the professional conduct, clinical competency and ongoing accountability of individual nursing staff, rather than KSL Clinic as an organisation. This includes how nurses administer treatment, how they communicate with and care for patients, and how they’re held accountable if something goes wrong.

If a patient or employer raises a concern about a nurse’s conduct or competence, NMBI has the authority to investigate and, where necessary, restrict or remove that nurse’s right to practise. This sits entirely outside KSL Clinic’s own internal processes, an external check we don’t control.

What This Means for You

If you’re treated at KSL Clinic’s Dublin clinic, the nursing team involved in your care, before, during and after your procedure, is professionally regulated to the standard expected of nurses across Ireland’s healthcare system, and individually accountable for the care they provide. You can check any nurse’s registration status directly on NMBI’s public register before your procedure.
