What is PRP hair treatment?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections therapy is a non-surgical and a safe treatment option for male and female hair loss. Blood is taken from the patient (usually arm) and then span in a machine called a centrifuge. The spinning separates the blood into sections. The section we call PRP contains special cells called Platelets, that can cause growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. These special Platelet cells promote healing, accelerate the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, improve response to injury and formation of new cellular growth. It is this PRP that is reinjected into the treatment area.
The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase. PRP treatment in hair restoration is an evidence based procedure supported by positive results in clinical research.
How Does PRP treatment work?
As we have already mentioned, PRP hair loss therapy takes part in three stages, with most patients requiring three to four treatments that must be taken after a break of 4-6 weeks. Most patients will also need to have maintenance treatments.
The PRP hair treatment process is carried out as follows;
Blood is drawn – usually from the patient’s arm – and placed into a centrifuge, which spins the blood at a rapid pace to separate the blood into sections.
Around 10 minutes later, the centrifuge will have done its job and the patient’s blood will have been separated into three unique layers:
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Platelet-poor plasma
- Red blood cells
Now, one of our medical professionals will inject the platelet-rich plasma carefully into the parts of the scalp which require treatment.
Like any hair loss treatment, the results of PRP hair loss therapy can vary from person to person. However, many individuals who have had the therapy have noticed a significant reduction in hair loss. They have also found that the width of hair follicles has significantly improved and that hair density is vastly improved, resulting in a thicker, fuller head of hair.
