While eyebrow transplants are often assumed to be a treatment suited only to women, the KSL Clinic teams are also consulting with an increasing number of men, who have found that hair loss to their eyebrows has negatively impacted their appearance, confidence or self-esteem.
Eyebrow transplants have become a hugely popular treatment to address issues with eyebrow condistions. Whether it’s due to ageing, hormones, or overgrooming, eyebrow hair loss can subtly affect your overall appearance and confidence.
The good news? In most cases, it’s completely treatable. From understanding the root causes to exploring modern solutions like eyebrow transplants here’s what men need to know about thinning eyebrows—and how to get fuller, natural-looking results.
Eyebrow Transplants for Men: Quick Facts
- Eyebrow hair loss, or madarosis, can affect both genders and be caused by a wide range of issues, from genetics to hormonal imbalances, deficiencies in certain nutrients, reactions to medications, and autoimmune disorders.
- While some female eyebrow transplant patients have thin or sparse brows due to over-plucking in the past, it’s also just as likely that a male patient will find that hair loss has affected their brows and be less interested in using cosmetics to conceal the areas of thinning.
- Many male patients prefer a straight, natural, and only slightly enhanced brow, and the bespoke nature of FUE transplants means we can create any shape, size, or thickness of brow that will best complement their facial features.
“It’s a common misconception that eyebrow transplants are only for women. In reality, we’re seeing more men choosing this treatment to restore balance to their facial features—without relying on cosmetic cover-ups. The procedure is the same, the results are natural, and the confidence boost can be life-changing.”

What Is the Most Common Reason for Eyebrow Hair Loss in Men?
There are countless reasons a male patient might have seen changes to their eyebrows over time. As we’ve noted, madarosis can affect men and women at any age, so an eyebrow transplant is far from reserved only for women.
While not exhaustive, we’ve summarised some of the potential underlying causes behind male eyebrow hair loss:
- Genetics, where men and women might find eyebrow, facial or scalp hair is thinner or changes over time due to familial inherited traits.
- Some autoimmune conditions that attack the hair follicles, including alopecia areata, can leave patients of any gender with patches of hair loss or complete baldness in the eyebrow area.
- Conditions that affect natural hormones, such as thyroid imbalances, can contribute to eyebrow thinning.
- Men who are deficient in certain vitamins and minerals may be at greater risk of eyebrow hair loss. This might include a low consumption of nutrients like zinc, iron, and vitamins A, E, D, and C.
- Skin complaints, including psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis, can damage the surface of the skin, and when they affect the eyebrow area, they can impede healthy hair growth.
Men can also see reductions in the density of eyebrow hair growth if they have over-groomed their brows in the past. Cosmetic treatments to wax or pluck the eyebrows can lead to permanent damage to the follicle.
Are Men Eligible Candidates for an Eyebrow Transplant Procedure?
Almost certainly, yes! We recognise the sometimes considerable impacts hair loss can have and why many men find that sparse, patchy and uneven brows have a very real effect on their facial features, appearance and general sense of well-being.
There are caveats, such as being unable to complete a successful eyebrow transplant if a patient has an uncontrolled autoimmune condition. However, if there are sufficient healthy donor follicles, usually around the back of the scalp, we can often proceed.
Other causes of eyebrow hair loss, like alopecia areata, may also need specialised treatment plans. This condition might mean that newly transplanted follicles remain exposed to damage, and therefore, a transplant may not have the best chance of success.
What Is the Difference Between a Male and a Female Eyebrow Transplant?
In terms of the procedure, there is no difference in how we complete an FUE eyebrow transplant. The main contrasts tend to be:
- The patient’s preferences in terms of the size, shape and density of their brows
- The angle and direction of each transplanted follicle – this always varies between patients based on their natural growth patterns
- The colour, texture and characteristics of the patient’s existing eyebrow hair.
During an FUE eyebrow transplant, we extract individual donor follicles that match the existing or lost hair, which is how we deliver that natural, invisible outcome.
This means that every eyebrow transplant we perform is bespoke to the patient and based on a preconfigured transplant and hair restoration plan created around their wishes and expectations.

What Happens During an Eyebrow Transplant to Correct Male Thin Eyebrows?
Scheduling a consultation with your preferred KSL Clinic location is step one to replenishing your eyebrows. These appointments are free and without obligation, and ensure we have verified that an eyebrow transplant is the right treatment for you.
During the eyebrow transplant surgery, we work through the following steps:
- Each donor follicle is carefully extracted from a selected site with plenty of healthy hair, and where this won’t impact visible hair growth.
- We use a microscopic tool called a Micro Punch, which creates tiny incisions around a mm across. These heal rapidly and, once healed, cannot be seen with the naked eye.
- Those donor follicles are prepared for transplantation and inserted into the target area one at a time.
This level of precision means we can select each individual donor hair based on the exact characteristics you want your eyebrows to have, achieving a tailored outcome based wholly on how you’d love your brows to look.
Do Men Have to Shave Their Eyebrows to Have a Transplant?
We often speak with patients worried about having to share their heads or eyebrows to undergo a transplant, and in most cases, this isn’t necessary. Sometimes, trimming the existing growth to make the transplant more efficient is preferable, but many patients don’t need to consider shaving their eyebrows completely.
